Welcome, June!!
I don’t know about you, but May and June are my favourite months of the year. Everything is blossoming beautifully, and we have such long lovely days. SO what is there to report in the Samlesbury Hall June Newsletter 2024? ………
The weather is often good enough to sit back in the courtyard listening to the beautiful fountain, maybe watching your children or grandchildren squeal with laughter attempting to hook a duck. However, I am fully aware of more adults on the edge of the fountain with the bamboo stick, hopefully trying to catch a duck.
It just gets better – if it starts to rain, go inside enjoy the free visit to our 699-year-old beautiful, beautiful house, breathe in the amazing smells of history, if you dare pop upstairs, have a chat with the witch and the ghosts.
There have been some amazing offers on the Shepherds huts lately, lasting up until the summer holidays, you might need to double check on our website here. Glamping at it’s best in our Shepherd’s Huts from as little £25 per person for a night: you get a free barbecue set, bangers, burgers, baps, beers and Prosecco all in with the deal. I’ve been up to the Café today and we have made the decision to change the name because we feel it’s a little bit more than a Café, and we would be doing our chefs and fabulous team a disservice to leave it as such… So it’s new name is The Garden Room Eatery. Our peaceful Heritage Gardens will still be here for dining in our hidden gem of an outdoor space.
Talking about the gardens in there, I’m looking at some climbing plants to climb up the trellis we have put out there so that It looks very pretty and festive lit in the evenings. Can anyone help us with some climbing plants? We’re going to need about 40 or 50? I was thinking clematis and honeysuckle, but we are open to ideas and more importantly, volunteers who can help us set this up. Would you like your name on one of the pillars saying you helped?
Another fascinating fact is the big red pump in the Heritage Gardens used to be a part of the Victorian Samlesbury sewage treatment plant. However, rest assured I promise you, we have thoroughly cleaned it, scrubbed it up and painted it back in its glorious red, and it’s a bubbling water feature.
Our next wedding open evening is on the 6th June 2024. The 14th century Hall will be dressed as it could be on your wedding day, with some of our favourite local suppliers in attendance (including photographers, florists, venue dressers, cake makers, musicians, DJ’s and even an axe thrower!).
We’re also opening up The Garden Room for that beautiful bijou late afternoon wedding, which has a completely different feel but makes for the most delightful wedding day .
You can also visit our amazing hamlet of colourful and luxurious shepherd’s huts to see where your guests will sleep – there will even be marshmallows for you to toast on the fire pits!
Next year were will also be a marquee nestled amongst the trees in the grounds, which means we will be able to host much bigger functions, parties and weddings and will help to kickstart our 700th anniversary celebrations. We really will have options for everybody.
Next year is going to be a huge year. Not only is the Hall 700 years old but the trust (did you know we were a charity?) turns 100 years old also. Do you want to do you want to be a part of it all? We are planning lots of fantastic events and we’re going to need a lot of help.
The real reason I’m writing this blog is because I wanted to announce a brilliant new website that also brings in some really stylish new branding in time for our seventh centenary, have a look and see what you think! We are delighted.
